Words & Yoga
Welcome
I was taught that you can’t teach yoga without being a poet, and I’m inclined to agree. In this newsletter, I attempt to view life—and yoga—through a poetic lens.
What exactly is yoga?
Yoga isn’t about movement, but movement can be yoga.
Yoga isn’t about stillness, but stillness can be yoga.
Have you ever sat completely still in a daydream, deeply immersed in a distant memory? Have you found yourself in shavasana, thinking about what you will eat for dinner?
That’s not yoga!
But have you ever run along a forest track at daybreak, simultaneously aware of the pounding of your feet on the ground, the thumping of your heart and the sound of your breath against a backdrop of birds waking?
Or have you played a game of beach frisbee and watched that coloured disc descend from above in slow motion, all other noise and commotion receding into the background as you, your breath, the frisbee and the sky become one?
Yoga isn’t running or frisbee, but running or frisbee can be yoga.
In this newsletter, that’s the essence of all I share. Sound intriguing? Then join me on this journey.
I’m glad to have you here by my side.
Wondering about subscriber benefits?
Who am I?
I’m Laura, a yoga therapist with a nursing and public health background. I moved from a fast-paced city to the countryside more than a decade ago, and now I live the quiet life in rural Portugal with my husband, dog, cats, chickens and ducks.
My yoga sessions combine mindful movement, breathwork, and yoga therapy tools for emotional balance. Sitting at the intersection of science and softness, my writing attempts to do the same.
Words & Yoga is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
If you find my work helpful and would like to support me without becoming a paid subscriber, I’ll gratefully accept a cup of tea. It really does help.
